Client:

Our client is a sole partner firm of Chartered Accountants. They are looking for an Audit Senior to join their team.

Created in 1990 the client is a registered accountancy firm, carrying out audit work and is regulated for a range of investment business activities by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. The client also has a registered training office for students on both Certified and Chartered accountancy courses.

Purpose of Role:

To work within a Professional Practice Firm, in servicing a range of client across the legal, consulting and other professional services from the sector. To take ownership of allocated assignments in a way that meets and exceeds client expectations while taking responsibility for managing and developing staff. Additionally, to work with the partners on business development in this sector.

Job Spec:

Main responsibilities

Audits

  • supervises a number of audit teams and ensures planned audit work is appropriately completed to satisfy audit objectives
  • plans and co-ordinates all aspects of audit planning, including staffing requirements
  • ensures key matters which arise during the audit which were not identified at the planning stage are properly assessed
  • highlights all key issues which may affect the audit opinion to audit partner
  • assists audit partner in establishing audit objectives and overall scope
  • reviews the work of in-charge accountants and also of office specialists (tax, risk)
  • approves the in-charge accountant's selection of audit procedures
  • checks that audit workpapers have been properly reviewed and that audit files are completed in a timely manner and are properly filed and maintained on the network
  • determines that all audit reports reflect the work performed and meet set reporting and auditing standards
  • finalises draft of the report to management
  • ensures appropriate on-the-job training is provided for junior members of the audit team
  • responsible for controlling the audit in relation to timescales, budgets and risk management procedures

Client Issues

  • remains updated on changes to clients' business
  • responsible for managing key client portfolio and building and maintaining good working relationships with all colleagues and clients
  • assists in the production and presentation of proposals for new work
  • follows through on any concerns regarding an audit assignment with audit partner and manages to balance risks and commercial returns.
  • is actively involved in office marketing events, is an 'ambassador' of the firm, is aware of the wide range of services the firm offers and suggests innovative products, whilst pro actively identifying cross selling opportunities
  • is actively involved in business development, including targeting, external people building and external presentations

Task Management

  • ensures the firm discharges properly its professional duties
  • consistently achieves deadlines and understands the commercial implications of actions relating to productivity, recoverability, fee income and client service
  • accurately records time spent and documents reasons for overruns
  • communicates workload with senior manager or partner

Staff Management

  • responsible for managing audit teams on specific assignments, with specific line management responsibility for a group of staff
  • motivates and coaches team members and provides feedback through regular communication and timely appraisal whilst being familiar with relevant training and development options

Training

  • attends training courses as identified in order to develop both technical and personal skills and keeps records for CPD purposes
  • maintains understanding of audit methodology
  • attends seminars to develop networking skills and identify cross-selling opportunities

Person specification

Professional qualification (ACA, CA, ACCA) , Some post-qualified experience of audit and advisory work for Professional service firms, including LLPs, Good working knowledge of compliance and regulation. Ability to support and mentor staff. Previous experience of client work in the Professional Practices sector.
