Our Client is a large, well established Infrastructure Service provider within the public sector, offering a diverse and integrated range of highways and transportation solutions.  They are looking for a Highways Design Engineer to report to the Highways Design Team Leader.

The Highways Design Engineers duties are:

To assist the Highways Design Team Leader in ensuring that the Highways

Team have adequate training and resources

To assist the Highways Design Team Leader in managing external resources used by the Highways Team

To agree the briefs, programmes and budgets with the Highways Design Team

Leader and Senior Highways Engineer

To prepare designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables for highways schemes

To allocate tasks to other members of the Highways Team and monitor progress

To monitor the designs produced to ensure they meet the design briefs set by the Delivery Teams

To ensure designs are appropriate and meet the expected levels of technical excellence

To seek innovation in the delivery of schemes and techniques used to design

and construct them.

To ensure the quality system is actively applied to all highways schemes.

The successful candidate has:

Relevant vocational qualifications (MEng / BEng / BSc / HNC and HND)

Detailed knowledge of design codes (DMRB / MCDHW etc) relevant to

Highway Engineering

Knowledge of the HA procedures necessary to deliver a Highways project

Knowledge of the use of computer design tools

Appropriate recent experience in Highway Engineering

Membership or working towards membership of an appropriate professional

institution (ICE or IHT)

Registered with or working towards registration with the Engineering Council

5 days of CPD in last 12 months including 3 related to Highway Engineering

Basic Project Management Skills

Competent in Highway Engineering

Understanding of H&S Requirements related to Highway Engineering

Broad knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation

Competent in exercising the Designer’s obligations of CDM

CSCS Supervisor (Gold) Card

Full driver’s license and willingness to travel for meetings
