·                    Assisting the Highways Team Leader in ensuring that the Highways Team have adequate training and resources

·                    Managing external resources used by the Highways Team

·                    Agreeing the briefs, programmes and budgets with the Highways Team Leader

·                    Preparing designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables for highways schemes

·                    Allocating tasks to other members of the Highways Team and monitoring progress

·                    Monitoring the designs produced to ensure they meet the design briefs, and expected levels of technical excellence

·                    Seeking innovation in the delivery of schemes and techniques used to design and construct them

·                    Ensuring that the quality system is actively applied to all highways schemes

The successful candidate:

·                    Has membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE or IHT)

·                    Is registered with the Engineering Council to at least CEng level

·                    Has had 5 days of CPD in last 12 months including 3 related to Highway Engineering

·                    Possesses basic Project Management Skills

·                    Has an understanding of H&S Requirements related to Highway Engineering

·                    Has broad knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation

·                    Is competent in exercising the Designer’s obligations of CDM

·                    Has a CSCS Supervisor (Gold) Card

·                    Has an understanding of Environmental Requirements of Highway schemes

·                    Has basic knowledge of Quality Management and an in-depth understanding of QMS

·                    Has a relevant vocational qualification (MEng / BEng / BSc / HNC and HND or equivalent)

·                    Possesses detailed knowledge of design codes (DMRB / MCDHW etc) relevant to Highway Engineering 

·                    Knowledge of the use of computer design tools

·                    Appropriate recent experience in Highway Engineering
