This is a one day workshop on Saturday 3^rd of May, in which photographer Tina Maas will be teaching the craft of creating Polaroid Transfers and Polaroid lifts.

Just as Polaroid has announced their final decision to discontinue their famous film I thought it was time to revive the amazing art of Polaroid manipulation, especially Polaroid Emulsion Transfers and Polaroid Lifts.

Students are required to bring their own image material on the day in the form of 35mm framed slides. We will be transferring the images onto Polaroid film using a Daylab machine and experimenting with both types of Polaroid manipulation. Polaroid Transfers involve pulling the Polaroid apart before the image is fully developed and transferring it onto other surfaces/media. Polaroid emulsion Lifts require the delicate removal of the top layer of the image in hot water, distorting it and placing it onto other materials.

After a presentation of examples of artistic Polaroid work I will demonstrate each technique and provide 3-4 Polaroids for each student to experiment on. You will need to bring your own Polaroid film for the rest of your work and any special paper/surface you want to put the Polaroids on (bear in mind there is some initial wastage of film, especially when you are new to the process). All other equipment will be provided.

The rest of the day will be spent with making your own work and improving your technique. I will also do a demonstration on hand coloring the finished Polaroid after lunch.

The workshop will be limited to a total of five students to ensure a comfortable working environment focused on each student’s individual aims and needs and is priced at 50 pounds per person. To reserve a place a 20 pound deposit is required.
